Learning about the land we live on and its historical and present day importance to Indigenous peoples and communities is an important way of honouring and celebrating the rich culture and traditions of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis.

Tom Longboat Day

In Ontario, June 4 is recognized each year as Tom Longboat Day.

Tom Longboat was born on July 4, 1887, on the Six Nations Reserve near Brantford, Ontario. He is remembered for his perseverance, skill and excellence as an accomplished long-distance runner.

Pride Month

June is recognized each year as Pride Month. This month, we look forward to highlighting many ways DSB1 students and staff celebrate having pride in who they are!

In DSB1 we foster caring, wellness and model high expectations while celebrating each learner by providing opportunities to build a sense of belonging.

Canadian Armed Forces Day

June 2, 2024, recognizes Canadian Armed Forces Day. This day honours the strength, courage, and resilience of those who currently serve and have served our country at sea, on land, and in the air. We express our sincere gratitude and appreciation for your service.
